Hello ,
It’s 2025 and DWC memberships are up for renewal. If you have not joined or renewed since October, please take a moment to do so now. https://donorbox.org/dwc-sd
Please note that we will not meet in January. Instead, we encourage you to attend the 7th Annual Women of Color Roar Breakfast on Saturday, February 1st! The Democratic Woman’s Club is a sponsor of this inspiring event and it is not to be missed!
Info and tickets available here: Rooted in Resilience: Honoring the Strength and Contributions of Black Women
Also, the Democratic Woman’s Club is pleased to co-sponsor author and independent journalist Jessica Pishko, who will speak on “How the Unchecked Power of Sheriffs Threatens Democracy” on February 15, 2025. In her zoom presentation, Pishko will speak about the unregulated power of sheriffs , and how it relates locally in San Diego and on a national scale, particularly with regard to Trump’s deportation schemes. For more information on her work, see Pishko’s recent New Yorker article, “How Sheriffs Might Power Trump’s Deportation Machine” and/or her 2024 book, “The Highest Law In The Land: How the Unchecked Power of Sheriffs Threatens Democracy”, provides many useful insights. Her recent article in The New Yorker magazine, “How Sheriffs Might Power Trump’s Deportation Machine”.
We will be back at Elijah’s for our regular meeting on Monday, February 17 at 6:30pm. The horrific fires have placed climate change top of mind. We will be joined by Meghan Plant from I Love a Clean San Diego to discuss real ways individuals can reduce their impact on the environment through simple steps, focusing on topics such as proper recycling practices and creating zero waste habits.
We will also be electing Club Officers
Reminder: take a moment to renew your 2025 membership now:
