Events Coming Up!
Hello ,
Thanks to those of you who participated in our endorsement meeting on Saturday. Although no candidate hit the threshold for endorsement, Mayor Aguirre and Councilmember Moreno were rated acceptable.
The Democratic Woman’s Club is pleased to co-sponsor author and independent journalist Jessica Pishko, who will speak on “How the Unchecked Power of Sheriffs Threatens Democracy” on February 15, 2025 at 4pm. In her zoom presentation, Pishko will speak about the unregulated power of sheriffs, and how it relates locally in San Diego and on a national scale, particularly with regard to Trump’s deportation schemes. For more information on her work, see Pishko’s recent New Yorker article, “How Sheriffs Might Power Trump’s Deportation Machine” and/or her 2024 book, “The Highest Law In The Land: How the Unchecked Power of Sheriffs Threatens Democracy”, provides many useful insights. Her recent article in The New Yorker magazine, “How Sheriffs Might Power Trump’s Deportation Machine”.
We will be back at Elijah’s for our regular meeting on Monday, February 17 at 6:30pm. This month we are fortunate to have Dr. Rebecca Fielding-Miller presenting on Banned Words and Bad Science: How "dei" attacks are dismantling American science, why it matters, what you can do.
In other news, the horrific fires have placed climate change top of mind. We will be joined by Chris Muñoz from I Love a Clean San Diego to discuss real ways individuals can reduce their impact on the environment through simple steps, focusing on topics such as proper recycling practices and creating zero waste habits.
We will also be electing Club Officers
